Our Vision

Enriching Student Lives

The York Academy Upper School Library is widely recognized at the information utility in our school. The reading materials are available to all students and staff members and are engaging and high-interest. These materials aim to cover a wide range of topics, are suitable for people of many ages, and contain content that reaches all members of our diverse population. The services provided by the York Academy Upper School Library ensure that all students have equitable access to reading material, information that will help them be successful in their classes, and technology to enhance their learning experience at the York Academy.

As a partner of the York County Library System, the York Academy Upper School Library is home to a wide variety of different opportunities for students, from providing powerful research databases for all students to hosting a number of events collaboratively to help bring the youth of York Academy to learn more about their community. All of our efforts focus on promoting student achievement while providing a safe environment. We seek to cultivate life-long learning in our students through the materials and services made available to all students.

About: Our Mission

Philosophy

At the York Academy Upper School Media Center, it is imperative that our students are always learning. Learning takes many forms, all of which are welcome in the media center. The space is designed to allow for students to share ideas, work together, find materials in a manner that is engaging, inspiring, and comfortable. It is the goal of this space to foster the imagination of all who seek to use it and the materials within. It is essential that the library be used as place for which students seek to be productive and reflective, working with open-mindedness to constantly enhance their work.

The library is the heartbeat of the school, and is able to reflect with equal parts what is taking place in classrooms. Students should seek the library for additional resources, help, and further learning of the content that is being taught in their classes. Additionally, opportunities will be made available through the library for students to pursue interests outside of the classroom and to discover new interests. Within the library, students should feel curious, engaged, and supported in their learning.

Mrs. Daniels

Kate Daniels has worked with the York Academy for four years. She is from Bedford, Pennsylvania and attended Shippensburg University where she received her B.A. in Secondary English Education. She now lives in York with her husband and dog. She attends graduate classes at McDaniel College and is working on her graduate degree in School Librarianship.

In addition to being the school librarian, Mrs. Daniels also works with student council, teaches creative writing classes, runs an after-school coding club, and in charge of the Robotics flex group. She loves working at the York Academy, and her favorite part of her day is talking with students about what books they are reading and making recommendations about what they should try reading next.
